Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory

Last month, The Ven. Thomas Winslow and The Rt. Rev. Roger White died. I invite you to join me in giving thanks for their lives and witness to Jesus Christ, and prayer for those who grieve their loss.

As members of the St. James Community, many of you have memories of Tom as a choir boy, and active member of our community. Tom was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Gaskell in 1983, and to the priesthood by Bishop Miller in 2007. Please hold Tom’s wife, Peg; his daughters, Catherine and Cindi; and all his family in your prayers. The funeral service for Tom will be at All Saints’ Cathedral on Tuesday, September 4, at 7:00PM. Visitation will be held in the Cathedral library from 4:00-7:00PM. All Saints’ Cathedral is located at 818 East Juneau Avenue in Milwaukee.

As members of the St. James Community, many of you also have memories of Bishop White. (insert more text about Bishop White) Bishop White was the tenth Bishop of Milwaukee, and he is the first bishop I ever met. As a teenager, Bishop White attended some of our youth events and I can remember him joining in our games and encouraging us to deepen our faith. After I was Confirmed, I received a Book of Common Prayer with a note from him, “Lisa my friend, Give God all the glory and serve Christ well. May Christ’s presence bring great joy into your life.” That note has traveled the way with me ever since, and been a good reminder of my call to follow Jesus. Please keep his wife, Pru, children Marcus, Suzy and Charles; and all of his family in your prayers. The funeral service for Roger will be Thursday, September 6 at 7:00PM at All Saints’ Cathedral.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servants with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.
